I painted this "en plein air" at Coopers Beach, Doubtless Bay in January of 2008.
I haven't painted out in the open for years, and with my mom's illness, I hadn't even been to a beach in years, so I'm grateful to Len and Anne for deciding that that's what we should do one sunny afternoon during their short visit from Cambridge, UK.
Len
wanted Anne to do some painting, so Coopers Beach seemed the ideal location - not only very beautiful in its own right, but also not far from some good fish and chips cafes at Maunganui :-)).
Anne and I found a nice bit of shade under some of the great pohutukawa trees that are such a feature of Coopers Beach and set to work.
